چکیده

Given arbitrary source and target nodes s, t and an s–t-flow defined by its flow-values on each arc of a network, we consider the problem of finding a decomposition of this flow with a minimal number of s–t-paths. This problem is issued from the engineering of telecommunications networks for which the task of implementing a routing solution consists in integrating a set of end-to-end paths. We show that this problem is NP-hard in the strong sense and give some properties of an optimal solution. We then propose upper and lower bounds for the number of paths in an optimal solution. Finally we develop two heuristics based on the properties of a special set of solutions called saturating solutions. 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

An Iterated Greedy Algorithm for Solving the Blocking Flow Shop Scheduling Problem with Total Flow Time Criteria

In this paper, we propose an iterated greedy algorithm for solving the blocking flow shop scheduling problem with total flow time minimization objective. The steps of this algorithm are designed very efficient. For generating an initial solution, we develop an efficient constructive heuristic by modifying the best known NEH algorithm. Effectiveness of the proposed iterated greedy algorithm is t...

A Set of Algorithms for Solving the Generalized Tardiness Flowshop Problems

This paper considers the problem of scheduling n jobs in the generalized tardiness flow shop problem with m machines. Seven algorithms are developed for finding a schedule with minimum total tardiness of jobs in the generalized flow shop problem. Two simple rules, the shortest processing time (SPT), and the earliest due date (EDD) sequencing rules, are modified and employed as the core of seque...

Planning Robot Motion in a 2-D Region with Unknown Obstacles

The purpose of this paper is to present several algorithms for planning the motion of a robot in a two-dimensional region having obstacles whose shapes and locations are unknown. The convergence and efficiency of the algorithms are discussed and upper bounds for the lengths of paths generated by the different algorithms are derived and compared.

An Iterated Greedy Algorithm for Flexible Flow Lines with Sequence Dependent Setup Times to Minimize Total Weighted Completion Time

This paper explores the flexile flow lines where setup times are sequence- dependent. The optimization criterion is the minimization of total weighted completion time. We propose an iterated greedy algorithm (IGA) to tackle the problem. An experimental evaluation is conducted to evaluate the proposed algorithm and, then, the obtained results of IGA are compared against those of some other exist...

Throughput Optimal On-Line Algorithms for Advanced Resource Reservation in Ultra High-Speed Networks

Advanced channel reservation is emerging as an important feature of ultra high-speed networks requiring the transfer of large files. Applications include scientific data transfers and database backup. In this paper, we present two new, online algorithms for advanced reservation, called BatchAll and BatchLim, that are guaranteed to achieve optimal throughput performance, based on multi-commodity...
